The Malignant Ginger

I'm Jojogingerhead, a 31 year old artist & musician based in Brighton (UK) satirically documenting the highs and lows of my secondary triple negative breast cancer diagnosis. Trying to see the light in a dark and scary situation without using the words fight, battle, journey or survivor.

My gang of 6 breast cancer bitches cause carnage in London

On Thursday I headed up to to London to meet 5 (it was supposed to be 6 but Aimee couldn’t make it) other women I have grown very close to through the Younger Breast Cancer Network.

I cannot express in words how vital the network has been supporting me whilst going through my primary and secondary breast cancer diagnosis’s. YBCN is a secret group where younger women aged between 20 and 45 from all over the UK can chat to each other and offer support, share experiences, cry, laugh and generally go through this cancershitstorm together without feeling alone. If you’re interested to know a bit more about how the network is run, then check out this awesome interview about it’s founder Victoria Yates written by one of our lovely members.

So, back to the day out in London on Thursday. I met Sarah, Rebecca, Rosie, Andrea and Cinzia at Kings Cross for lunch, well, mostly cocktails and wine and the days fun (or carnage would be a better word to describe it) started from there. Highlights of the day (other than getting to hang out with 5 of the funniest, kindest and most amazing people EVA) included much shot drinking, cackling like a coven of witches, meeting a pearly king and queen, wig swapping, Andrea dressing up as a one shoed gypsy and myself being forced to wear pink. Yes I was given a pink bracelet by Rosie (she knows how much I detest the colour), needless to say I loved the gesture so much it remains upon my wrist. There were many other highlights but my memory gets a little fuzzy after the 3rd drink!

I can honestly say it was one of the best days of life, my face still hurts from laughing so much and my head still hurts from the stinking hangover I had to endure all day Friday whilst having chemo. It was well worth it though and I went away from London knowing I have made new friends for life. I cannot write a better blog than my friend Sarah who wrote an account of the days events perfectly here, but will give it a go by posting some our best photos…

How the carnage started, our cocktails even looked like a pair of tits…
